An introduction to the jointers and planers in the Wood Shop.

This course introduces machines for dimensioning, flattening, and profiling solid wood. Learn how to safely operate the core machines in the wood shop including: 

  • Martin jointer 

  • Martin planer 

  • Jessem router table 

Users will learn how to safely operate the 20” Martin Jointer to make the face of a board flat and an edge square, the 24” Martin Planer to dimension the thickness of a board, and the table router to create edge profiles, dados, or rabbets. Users will also get firsthand experience jointing, planing, and routing a piece of solid wood to demonstrate proficiency. This class will prepare users for any fine woodworking project and teaches the skills to dimension all solid wood stock. 

Materials: The jointer and planer may only used with solid wood. The router may be used solid and plywood. 

Audience: This safety and basic use class is for shop users with some carpentry or woodworking experience.
