Intro to Metal Fabrication

An introduction to the metal fabrication shop.

Description

Learn how to safely operate the core machines in the Metal Shop including: 

  • DoAll vertical band saw
  • Femi compact bandsaw
  • Evolution Chop saw
  • Burr King 
  • Grizzly drill press 
  • Kalamazoo belt/disc sander
  • 4.5" Grinders
  • Air tools

This course covers Metal Shop safety procedures and equipment. You will learn how to operate and adjust machines to cut, shape, and drill metal. Students will receive hands-on-experience cutting metal and will demonstrate proficiency on each machine. After this class, you will be able to make safe and accurate cuts using the power tools in the Metal Shop to safely begin basic metal projects. 

***Long pants and closed toe shoes are required, steel toe boots are recommended for this course. Long pants and safety toe coverings are the minimum required for access to the shop.

*** Please note, in addition to the Tech Center's internal prerequisites, before taking this training, you must have completed a online National Fire Protection Association Hot Work certification within the last three years (cost: $49) - you can register for this course here.
