Metal Bending - Safety, Operation, & Basic Use

Learn to use the metal rollers, brakes, presses, and benders to manipulate metal in the San Francisco Technology Center metal shop.

Description

This course is an all-around introduction to the tools that “push” metal in the shop. You will learn how to safely operate:

  • The Baileigh Combination Sheet Metal shear/Brake/Roller

  • The Dake Hydraulic Press

You will receive hands-on-instruction on bending a piece of tube and a piece of flat bar using manual and hydraulic power on the tubing bender, as well as braking a piece of flat bar on the hydraulic brake. You will also shear, brake, and roll pieces of sheet metal on the Baileigh to form square and round tubing, pipes, flats, and solid bars. After this class, you can safely begin using these tools to shape metal.

Materials: Steel, aluminum and other metals.

Audience: This safety and basic use class is for shop users of all skill levels with some metal working experience.
